The Hollies in the little hamlet of Blencow on the edge of the Lake District is a superb example of a one-of-a-kind new build project. It combines modern styling with superb traditional features to provide luxurious modern country living. This impressive project was delivered exclusively by L&D over an extended period of two years, in line with the customer’s specified time scale.
The design know how and feel for style and quality provided by L&D played a valuable role in building luxury living into the basic footprint. The striking features; ranging from vaulted brickwork above the aga and superb bespoke sandstone living room fireplace, through the splendid green oak roof trusses, magnificent timber staircase and natural slate flagged floors were all designed, specified and installed by the Company’s team of experts.
The showpiece styling is rounded off with extensive use of efficient underfloor heating, FIVE sumptuous bathrooms and an airy, attractive and eminently usable open plan cook’s kitchen and dining space. As a result of its granite bedrock Blencow is an area that records high radon gas levels. Today this radioactive gas is recognised as a potential health threat.
During the project L&D worked with a specialist consultant to develop a safe means of preventing gas build-up within the home. This cost-effective solution comprised installation of a number of gas collection ‘sumps’ beneath the floors which are connected to a vent stack that draws the gas harmlessly into the atmosphere.
